The global economy is undergoing profound changes and at the same time has to overcome a major crisis.
The EU Commission is putting its focus on startup and SME growth to improve it, in connection with our main partner and client: the USA.
How are the EU and the USA going to face this challenge and leverage the Internet to create more growth and more jobs?
We count on three different views from both sides of the Atlantic to have a better idea of what is happening from the public and private spheres and how is the funding doing, with the participation of the Vice President of the European Comission, an American Venture Capitalist, and a European crowdfunding platform for startups.
Thanks to our member Davy Kestens, we have the opportunity to organize an event for all of you entrepreneurs that are thinking about moving to Silicon Valley and that have plenty of questions on the practicalities of how to do it. Davy found out that its partners were coming to Brussels and quickly sent us an email to see if we wanted to organize an event (hint for all of you ) with the firm that helped him bring TwitSpark to SF and who ended up investing in his company: Rowbotham & Company .
So the Betagroup and the Betacowork have made a quick effort to extend this opportunity to the whole of our entrepreneurhip community.

CANCELLED The production company has run into some issues and has cancelled the event. Too bad. We were really looking forward to it and so where the 36 motivated hackers that signed up
Starter RTBF, Betagroup, and westartup.eu have partnered to create a special hackathon to help the finalists of the Starter TV program.
It is like any startup hackathon you may have already participated in (Startup Weekend, Lean Startup Machine, etc.) but the projects are already chosen. You will not know who are the finalists until the hackathon and then you will form teams to help them out.
The challenge: to help starters in very different kinds of companies, that may or not be technology related.
What the starters get: motivated and experienced professionals to help them kickstart their business.
What you get: you get to take part in another hackathon with all the thrills and satisfaction that it brings, and you will be on TV ! There will be cameras going around to interview the participants and to film the progress of the hackathon. Your mom will still not understand what you are doing, but she will be proud!
How it will work: meetup on Monday afternoon for pitching and choosing teams. Get to work. Go home to sleep. Back on Tuesday for a full day of startup hacking. Food and drinks will be provided so that you can focus all your energy on the startups.
Language: mostly French.
Time:
Monday February 4 from 13h to 18h.
Tuesday February 5 from 9h to 18h.
Place: the Lavoisier building of the SDRB (we’ve visited the building and it is great). Rue de Koninck 80, 1080 Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Belgium.
